Sorry Monks
Flora and Fauna
Like consistently jangly vultures our Subjangle has swooped once again swooped to persuade guitar-pop legend Ollie Flanagan to allow us to release his latest two digital only EPs "The Meaning of Love" and "When The Movie Ends" on Digipak CD
Representing his fifth release with Subjangle, Flora and Fauna is the first of a double salvo of release with the forthcoming "Nowhere Man" including the EP of the same name and several new tracks) to be released on 30 January 2026.
Of Flora and Fauna Flanagan writes:
"Flora And Fauna’s title track is firmly in the Sorry Monks tradition of providing a contact high with mid-sixties British guitar pop (think 'Eight Days A Week' meets 'Effervescing Elephant'). "Misery Left Behind" comes on like 'Hurricane'-era Dylan, telling the story of a man on the wrong side of the law and "Got All That I Need" is heart on the sleeve indie rock, re-treading a path well worn by Paul Westerberg.
"So Sad What Happened" To Him is an elegy for an actor who died young; insert your own tragic childhood idol to complete the lyrical picture. Representing the highest fidelity Sorry Monks listening experience to date (can we call it mid-fi?) the album also features five re-recordings of tracks previously released by Subjangle on the Recipe album and, demo-itis not withstanding, they are surely the definitive versions."
One of 'those acts' that gives our label a little ego tickle every time he releases with, Flanagan continues to offer himself as the master of understated retro guitar pop.
