Come On Over To My House
60s / jangle pop / indie pop
In my capacity as the founder of a small 'by the seat of our pants' indie label (as lovingly coined by my my once label partner Shoey) I have had the absolute pleasure of collaborating with Chicago's Alpine Subs over four albums now since 2019.
I say 'absolute pleasure' because they are just one of those acts who really do things just for the 'absolute pleasure' of playing with their friends (I have to virtually twist their arms to get them to take any payment from us!) and that emotional warmth somehow engulfs their 60s jangly sound with the languid comfortability that only times with your very best friends can evoke.
This 'Come On Over To My House' album has even more of the above feeling instilled by the live recording, a deliberately lo-fi retro production and the augmentation of Americana that courses throughout their omnipresent jangled notes.
Slightly barroom, a bit lived in and all manner of words that I am struggling to find to explain the natural sense of warts and all beauty of this release, it is fair to say that 'the Subs' are back with even more of what has always made them great !
