Born in West Bromwich, the home town of the Sea Urchins and raised on early Flying Nun Records. Shopfires wanted to be an indie pop band. Much like his antipodean heroes.
It wasn’t until moving east to Leicester, armed with an old acoustic guitar and a cheap laptop that this project saw the light of day. Undeterred by his own musical and technical limitations, Neil Hill and his Shopfires solo recording project set about writing pop songs his way.
He was disappointed that he didn’t sound like the Chills or the Verlaines or Sneaky Feelings. He was happy however that he sounded like Shopfires
Neil Hill (Shopfies).
