Bright Islands

The initial physical format release from Bright Islands, titled “Five Songs”, is a compilation of the debut release “EP” (June 2023) and the follow up “Tomorrow” (December 2023). The music has its roots firmly in the indie / guitar pop camp, with musical textures and songwriting influenced by artists from both sides of the pond. Bright Islands is the solo project of Mike Simms who lives near Liverpool, UK. Mike’s formative years were spent listening to The John Peel Show and to some extent, the indie aesthetic might be apparent in the efforts of Bright Islands to date. All of the tracks on “Five Songs” were written, recorded and mixed at home; Anne Marie Howard made a guest appearance, providing backing vocals for four of the songs. The first releases were well received, and the audience for Bright Islands is slowly (but surely) growing. More new music to come in 2024 In June 2023 www.whitelight-whiteheat.com reviewed the initial 3 song 'EP' stating: “Three songs that juggle with grace amid delicate lulling strumming, shimmery jangly arpeggios, at times slightly distorted guitars, nimble basslines and sparse percussions, wrapped in ethereal sunkissed harmonies and bittersweet vocalizations …”
