GetMusic's artist spotlight features Laconist, sharing the story behind the music, the latest work, and what comes next.
Introduction & Background
Please introduce yourself and share a bit about your background.
We are a brutal death metal band from Brazil
What's your musical origin story?
Laconist was formed in 2007 by A. Neil aiming to praise gems such as Angelcorpse, Centvrian and Hate Eternal. Having released 2 full-length albums among other demos and EPs. The band entered a 10 year hiatus from 2016 until the present, with a revamped lineup featuring A. Neil as the sole original member. And with Him, Zé Misanthrope joined the ranks to redefine and resignify our legacy within the Brutal Death Metal scene. We have hired Felipe Veiga to track the drums as a session member so we could hammer this comeback in the way its name deserves.
What were the driving forces or pivotal moments that inspired you to pursue music?
We were inspired by acts such as Angelcorpse, Centvrian, Krisiun, Hate Eternal, Deeds Of Flesh and Morbid Angel
Musical Identity
How would you describe your style of music?
Brutal Death Metal
How is your personality reflected in your work?
We are just simple people with hearts full of hatred and frustration against the evils of capitalism
Describe your creative process when you write new music.
We just channel the heaviest riffs we can and assemble them into slabs of brutality
Current Work
What is the name of your latest release?
Vermiforming
What was the inspiration for that release?
After a 10 hiatus we are back to honor the lords of pestilence. Totally revamped line-up, same essence. Back to the original goal when the band was forged 19 years ago.
This track is part of our future EP Where Being Ends, I Begin and it features a very special guest appearance by Canadian vocalist Kyle Ball (Lysergic, ex-Kataplexis, ex-Wake) .
What challenges or unexpected moments did you encounter during the writing/recording process?
We took a little longer than expected due to logistics. As the band members are in different parts of the country it too a lot of back and forth to get it done
