Sparky Bosque
Sparky Bosque is the alter ego of UK-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mark Peter Woods, whose songs have drawn admiring glances from at least one person who isn't a friend or relative. Indeed, the BBC's David Gilyeat described Sparky Bosque as having "a lovely Elliott Smith vibe". In 2015, Sparky was encouraged to step into east London's Urchin Studios to work with acclaimed engineer Dan Cox (Thurston Moore). Supported by Matt Ingram (Laura Marling) on drums and Tom Robertson (Jake Bugg) on bass, he finally stopped name-dropping and released his debut EP, Bunch of Fives, in December 2015. Paul Lester described it "a fine example of post-Beatles songcraft with a noir-ish Big Star hue". After several hedonistic years living off the royalties, the self-produced debut LP, A New Low, was finally released during the short, cold summer of 2022, attracting the attention of BBC Introducing. Just like the buses, a second LP, Lying Flat, was released in December of the same year, but it failed to capture the Christmas number one spot. Corkscrew Soul – the third LP and final instalment in the amaretto trilogy – was released in January 2024. Tracks from this LP have also gained BBC airplay.
