Diacritical (active mid-2000s) was a Washington, D.C.–based punk/experimental band founded by Omar Pitras Waqar, blending hardcore urgency with South Asian textures and politically charged lyrics about war, racism, immigration, and systemic injustice. The band’s work became closely associated with Taqwacore, a cultural movement that used punk as a vehicle for challenging stereotypes and confronting Islamophobia.
