Transient Cat - Longform Ambient for Troubled Times

Almost two years after its premiere, we are releasing “Longform Ambient for Troubled Times”, which title desperately keeps on striking stronger and stronger.

“Every day in between cat videos, AI slop and internet memes, we are witnessing the coming end of our species, live-streamed genocides, the rise of racism & fascisms, and the everlasting domination of capital over life.

I wanted to make healing music for dystopian times, and envisioned warm and cheerful drones to clear our minds and set them free from our soul-eating matrixes. The improvisation sessions went quite differently, as I actually felt the need to cleanse myself through walls of noise, ultra-layered textures and larsens, and later on sing and experiment with merging my voice with machine learning noise glitches. The final form ended up cathartic, starting with excruciating violence, then going through every stage, exorcising something, in order to make it to the brighter side.” – Transient Cat

The piece was initially composed to be played on GRM’s acousmonium, a multi-channel multi-timbre speaker orchestra, as part of his presentation for his Sonic Arts degree with INA GRM in April 2024. This release, mastered by Dino Spiluttini, does not intend to re-enact the performance, but rather extend it and present it.

For this special occasion, we wanted to showcase the work of JANO, a longtime friend and leatherworker who put exceptional care in the design and craft of the tape covers. Each of them is limited-to-1-copy, each cassette’s B-side hosting a unique unreleased alternative version of LAFTT.
