Somehow Shopfires (the solo recording project of Leicester, UK based Neil Hill) found both critical and fan acclaim (very often it is one or the other with Subjangle releases !) with both his eponymous and "Holding on to Let Go" albums that were released in quick succession in 2024.

Until a casual conversation revealed it, I was completely unaware that Hill still had several tracks on his hard drive that he felt did not quite fit on any of the albums, that he was prepared to let sit their forever such is his unassuming manner.

Eventually I twisted his arm to let Subjangle release this appropriately named Surplus EP so that his fans can have yet more of his melancholy, dreamy indie-pop brilliance.

I think you will agree my 'musical naggings' has paid off as this Surplus EP is just as special as anything he has released so far.
