'There's No Place Like Nowhere, Ten Years Later: Live & 'Naked' at the Lamb's Club 10/23/24' is a live recording by genre-jumper and self described "singer-songcyclist" Matt DeMello, captured during the tenth-anniversary tour celebrating his eponymous debut album.
The original album is characterized by its lavish, densely layered synthesizer arrangements, which frequently mimic the scale and grandeur of a full orchestra. Drawing inspiration from the maximalist, symphonic psychedelia of The Flaming Lips' 'The Soft Bulletin', DeMello constructed an elaborate musical landscape in which intricate arrangements, unconventional instrumentation, and homemade production techniques coexist.
In striking contrast, this live recording presents the album in its most exposed, unadorned form. Performed solo, without the elaborate orchestration of the studio recordings, the songs are stripped to their essential elements, placing DeMello's songwriting, vocal performances, and musicianship at the forefront. The result offers a different perspective on the material, revealing the melodic structures, lyrical narratives, and emotional foundations that underpin the original album's expansive production.
Recorded upstairs at the historic Lamb's Club in New York City, the performance captures DeMello revisiting his earliest major body of work a decade after its creation with a more theatrically minded audience.
Releasing November 19, 2026, on the twelfth anniversary of the original album, the recording inaugurates a new archival bootleg series documenting DeMello's live performances in the years following the COVID-19 pandemic.
