GetMusic's artist spotlight features No Tees Please, sharing the story behind the music, the latest work, and what comes next.
Introduction & Background
Please introduce yourself and share a bit about your background.
We're 3 school friends from Rotherham, England. All middle aged now and doing this as a passion hobby. We all play guitar as our main instrument and all of us play a different style; this translates to our music with us aiming to not really meeting a specific genre.
What's your musical origin story?
We don't have an origin story and it's all fairly plain. From our early teenage years we were all playing guitar and through that we've bonded over the years with our similar tastes in music.
What were the driving forces or pivotal moments that inspired you to pursue music?
Music inspires us to pursue music.
Musical Identity
How would you describe your style of music?
We'd describe our sound as alternative but only because it's rather generic and covers so much! Our music is heavily driven by guitar playing but we like to mix in midi work be it through synths, drums etc.
How is your personality reflected in your work?
Everything we write reflects who we are, but predominantly you'll find most of our lead singers thoughts, feeling and personality in the personal lyrics that he belts out.
Describe your creative process when you write new music.
Currently we do not live in the same area and so our music creation process is driven through the use of storing files recorded on one anothers machines and uploading it to an online storage service to be worked on in a DAW. A lot of our creative process is separate in that one of us will write something and send it to the other 2 for their thoughts, if consensus is reached that song is a "goer", well work on fleshing it out!
Current Work
What is the name of your latest release?
It'll All Be Reyt
What was the inspiration for that release?
There isn't much inspiration behind the release other than that we enjoy writing music and feel that we've got a decent polish on our songs for how amateur we are! We're just excited to be sharing it and hope some people find enjoyment from it.
What challenges or unexpected moments did you encounter during the writing/recording process?
The main challenges have been finding time in-between full time jobs and children to piece together what we have. Hundreds of hours in the evening have been spent listening over and over again trying to eek out any improvement possible and to try and deliver something that may not compete with the big studios out there, but at the very least is honest and decent in the way that it sounds.
Promotion & Engagement
What strategies do you find most effective for promoting your music?
We've never done this before so we're learning as we go!
How do you engage with your fans online and offline?
At the moment we've not really thought about fan engagement. We're not able to tour or perform our music. This is just for us to get our sound out there and that's primarily all we want to do.
What upcoming promotional activities or releases are you most excited about?
We're already starting on our second album!
