Ricardo Formoso

Electric Rebound is the new project by Ricardo Formoso, a trumpeter from A Coruña (Spain), member of the MATOSINHOS JAZZ ORCHESTRA (OJM), and professor at the Higher School of Music and Performing Arts (ESMAE) in Porto. Following "Origens" (2017) and "Implosão" (2020), Formoso presents his third album as a leader, recorded in February 2025 at Disquesi Studio.

"Electric Rebound" was born from the desire to explore new timbral and stylistic possibilities, including the flugelhorn in an electric-based trio.

To shape this project, Formoso brings together three prominent musicians from the Galician jazz-rock scene: Virxilio da SILVA (guitar) (JUZZ) , Iago MOURINHO (keyboards) (AMOEBA SPLIT), and Miguel CABANA (drums). With established careers and extensive teaching experience in jazz and music, the quartet... And it immerses itself in a vibrant, electric sound.

As compositions entirely conceived by Ricardo, they combine the harmonic and melodic richness of Jazz with elements of Rock and Funk. The result is a fusion dominated by a strong rhythmic character and a conceptualization of ideas that allows for dialogue between the instruments, giving prominence to all the musicians. Each track opens a space for improvisation and individual expression, resulting in a solid, intense, and dynamic sound.
