Horizon

‘Horizon’ is Yama Uba's first release since their 2024 debut album, 'Silhouettes.' With an expanded sonic palette of ethereal, dreamlike, and open sounds alongside bass-pumping, dance-worthy tracks, 'Horizon' is about experiencing the liminal space of the present while embracing oneself as enough. In ‘Horizon,’ singer and producer Akiko Sampson accepts the state unknowing, allowing for multiple perspectives on future and past. In a time of sensory overload and overwhelm, these songs explore the deceptively simple act of being.

Haunting, emotive vocals float above velvety, meditative synthesizers in "Multitudes" and "Stomata," which respectively grapple with existence from the galactic to microscopic levels. The nostalgic melodies of "Queen of Swords" and "The Emperor's New Clothes" (Sinéad O'Connor cover) speak to the grief of shifted perspectives and disintegrated relationships. In "Black Cat," gritty rock vocals pounce upon dark 80s basslines, shouting plaintive questions about the mysteries of mortality into the night.
