Urschaum
Dimensional Transient
Badrich’s latest work, URSCHAUM, features a different side of his artistry that taps the dark waves of ambient. URSCHAUM may feature material or ideas and concepts realized from his 2019 Recombinant Retrospective release, which was originally recorded in 1999/2000. When you realize that there is a 25 year history with this release, it becomes more essential to immerse yourself into the sound.
Eons After is an appropriate titles given the album’s roots, a rumbling of nature’s dominance over mankind. The pace never quickens and in fact anchors around a low throbbing drum while drone cascade around the rhythm. Liminality is the dark sound between spaces, as you can feel the natural sounds unravel into thick clangs and dissonant tones. Passing Beyond feels like the pathway from the dead world into an unknown plane, where time is at a crawl. As gears turn and dark tones ring in the distance, lighter pads uplift the song, keeping it from being a one-trick pony. Dream Machinery concludes the EP with a heavy movement of deep basses and atonal frequencies, accented by modulated sounds that build up and then unwind slowly.
