The Varyous Artists
Trust in Trouble
diy / lo-fi / indie / alternative
Did you hear that they invented an apocalypse that can fit inside your pocket?
On most songs, Ron Varyous played all of the instruments, none of which he could actually play.
The album started as a COVID-era project. The lyrics were requesting release from captivity. No instruments were available at first, so the very beginning (of the project and of the album) involves a pizza cutter shaken for percussion and feedback generated by two pieces of stereo equipment hooked up incorrectly. Found sounds and animal noises were distorted and incorporated. Real instruments were gradually acquired or borrowed, with the goal of making each song sound different from the others. Why is that important? Well, on your favorite albums (your true favorites that have meant the most to you) does a new song begin, and you think to yourself, "Great- here's one that sounds like all of the others"? Me neither.
