This second EP exposes what happens when the outsiders get a seat inside the system. The guitars are still colossal and shimmering, but the songs are more pensive and dark than before. Rhythms churn like the cogs of a machine, melodies loop and fracture as if caught in broadcast feedback. The songs are more expansive and aggressive than ever.
Formed in 2023, The Media’s songwriting is a refusal to play nice with convention, Dean and Mike’s crooked chords, Rob’s relentless precision, Jeremy’s deceptively effortless bass lines. That restless defiance remains, but with this EP it’s more honed and coherent, a leap forward with echoes of what’s come before it.
Recorded between homes and the northern base station, these songs wrestle with complicity, disillusionment and moments that we can’t come back from. The Media may now be inside the machine, but their music makes sure you hear its grinding gears and reminds you that every signal carries a message.
