Stars and the Underground

Echolocation Feat Hannah Berry (Talmar) - Single

On a hot day in Auckland, New Zealand John Mason, ex-Winterland NZ Goth Rock Band circa 2000s, and John McDermott, ex-Headless Chickens, collectively now known as Stars and the Underground (NZ-based Post Punk, Shoegaze, and Dark Synthwave Project), met up with Hannah Berry of NZ-based Dark Electronic project Talmar, one of Aotearoa’s up-and-coming young artists. The three clicked instantly, and as a result, the second single “Echolocation” was created, the follow-up to the 2025 critically acclaimed single Lonely Black Hearts, both off the upcoming album “Guardians of the Night”. Echolocation initially broached the idea on the Evolution Circle EP, which was only intended to be a limited release. We choose to revisit the song with John McDermott's drumming and expertise, production-wise, really coming to the fore, and of course, Hannah’s wonderful contribution, adding ethereal heights not previously reached. Echolocation has finally arrived and serves as a focal point for the band in its World Goth Festival set and appearance in May 2026 thanks to Craig Dalyrymple (Cool Craig).
