Electric Forest

I've always been captivated by the intersection of nature and technology. I like that transitional space where the organic and the artificial overlap and intertwine. As human beings, we shape and are shaped by the digital tools we create. Likewise, the natural world itself is increasingly altered and displaced by human invention.

With Electric Forest, I invite you on an immersive journey through a woodland alive with energy, where voltage flows like sap and every tree vibrates with electricity. The Tegeler Forest, nestled near my home in Berlin, has often been an inspiration for my creative projects. The unique light and aroma of the forest helps free my mind of the everyday worries.

Many of the textures on this album come directly from that forest. I’ve woven in original field recordings captured among the tall trees and rich undergrowth. These natural sounds form the foundation, layered with the pulsing, shifting tones of my modular synthesizer. The result is a dreamlike soundscape meant to enchant, unsettle, and transport.

Electric Forest is, in many ways, a spiritual sequel to my previous EP, Electric Birds. But where that project embraced raw abstraction, this album leans more into melody and harmony without abandoning the experimental essence that listeners have come to expect from my music. You’ll also hear echoes of my love for orchestral music, most notably in the warped, recontextualized fragments of Engelbert Humperdinck’s playful opera, Hänsel und Gretel.

Though divided into tracks, this album is intended to be experienced as a continuous journey. From the first footsteps to the final digital echo, I hope you’ll let it carry you through the forest, both real and imagined.
