The word 'Na'mbi' is Tupi-Guarani for 'Orelha' ('Ear' in English), a tribute to the community dog brutally killed by individuals from the Brazilian elite in the city of Florianópolis. The gentle and beloved dog received this affectionate name due to its remarkable ears.
