Summer's End

“Summer’s End” started as a return to form after spending so much time on my concept album “DreamState.” I wanted to get back to writing short, self-contained pop songs with great melodies. But that wasn’t enough. I wanted this to be my best album yet. Every facet had to improve - melody, lyrics, arrangement, performance, mix, and production. As I amassed a stockpile of songs, I realized that there was some narrative tissue connecting the songs. This was a collection of songs about growing up, about change, about loss, and about turning points in life. It’s no coincidence that the title track was literally written in the hours just before my first child was born. So… no, “Summer’s End” isn’t a return to form… it’s the end of one phase and the beginning of something new.
