Las Nubes
Tormentas Malsanas

* KEXP Live Session - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSvmQQbE5DE

* Iggy Pop's Vinyl Cover Sticker Quote:

“Las Nubes are far and away the hottest band in Miami, and the most socially relevant. Like the children and the young at heart across North and South America, they rock from the soul, covered in tattoos and attitude. They represent an uncompromising lifestyle trend that is the future. They’re fucking loud, too.” – IGGY POP (LP Cover Sticker Quote)

* Artist Quote:

“Tormentas Malsanas is a culmination of personal experiences I had firsthand or felt secondhand through the lives of my close friends and relatives over the span of five years. The feelings brought on by these experiences were charged, sometimes stagnant and unforgiving, much like the summers here in South Florida. When it comes to expressing these personal narratives I always felt that articulating them through the lens of nature was something that anyone could feel a connection to. A lot of these songs were written at a time when it felt like the world was going to end, which also presents a feeling of longing to return to something “normal”.” – ALE CAMPOS (Vocals & Guitar)

* Press Release:

Miami summer has two extremes: one minute it’s sunny and sweltering hot, and the next, it’s tempestuous winds and pouring rain. And this polarity has a tendency to control people’s moods. Las Nubes, the ever-evolving Miami-based rock project led by Ale Campos and Emile Milgrim, has learned how to weather it all.

Before forming Las Nubes and releasing their 2019 debut LP, SMVT (released through Miami’s own Sweat Records Records), Campos and Milgrim were already mainstays on the Miami music scene, both performing in bands and producing music for over a decade. With SMVT, Las Nubes not only reintroduced themselves to the scene through their fuzzy, bilingual, 90s-influenced punk rock meets dream pop sound, but they also received significant acclaim for the album’s singles “Hellbag” and “QSW.”

Since then, Las Nubes has extensively toured the U.S. and Mexico and has shared the stage with Shannon and the Clams, Jens Lekman, The Coathangers, Sheer Mag, Mark Sultan, Torche, Alice Bag, and with the legendary Iggy Pop as his first all-female lineup of The Stooges (as captured on the ‘Live Nubes’ collection). SMVT’s debut allowed them to release a number of other small projects, including the Split EP with Miami locals Palomino Blond, a cassette release of live and session tracks called ‘Live Nubes,’ and “Enredados b/w Drop-In,” their newest 7” single. Their work has earned them the title of Miami New Times’ Best Band of 2019, a “distinction they’ve earned through hard work and infectious hooks,” and landed them recognition on NPR’s Alt.Latino, Remezcla, Rolling Stone, KEXP, KCRW, and Brooklyn Vegan.

On June 14, again working with engineer/producer Jonathan Nunez (Torche), Las Nubes will release their sophomore LP, ‘Tormentas Malsanas’ through Sweat Records Records, Spinda Records (EU), and Godless America (cassette). The title translates to “unhealthy storms,” a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the reality of living through Miami summers. Similar to the way a clear day turns gray with the threat of inclement weather, Tormentas Malsanas addresses common and uncommon struggles — from the difficulties of starting a family as a female musician and the pains of getting older without a lucid understanding of where you’re going, to Covid depression, and the desire to stand up against injustice in a productive way — through the energetic buoyancy of Las Nubes’s trademark loud as hell, garage pop sound. The heavy emotions addressed through the lyrics crossed with their vibrant and dynamic instrumental arrangements give the album a sense of hopefulness that reminds listeners: even the most turbulent moments don’t last forever.

* Praise for 'Tormentas Malsanas':

“Las Nubes blends their signature punk rock and dream pop sound with lyrics that offer a mix of hope and resilience…The singles "Enredados," "Would Be," and "Pesada" stand out, showcasing their evolution and musical maturity, cementing them as a vibrant and relevant force in the music scene.” – KEXP

“[T]he perfect soundtrack for a long afternoon in your bedroom, waiting for something larger than us to heal.” – NPR ALT.LATINO

"The band has an undeniable talent for rock songcraft, but they also seem eager to play with its conventions, delivering tightly honed pop melodies in one moment only to pivot into simmering instrumental textures or colossal guitar riffs at the next." – UNDER THE RADAR MAGAZINE

“Las Nubes’s music flows, no doubt the world will flow with them.” – CALVIN JOHNSON (Founder of K Records / Formerly of Beat Happening)

"Tormentas Malsanas cements the band’s confidence and muscle, a blisteringly sure-footed dose of alternative rock for the airwaves and beyond." – POST-TRASH

“...Fuzzy, garage-tinged... loaded with ruminations on the messy situationships that bloom in a sweaty, endless summer. You can practically hear the condensation running down their guitars.” – REMEZCLA

“Living as a queer and trans artist in Florida has become extremely difficult. Not only are queer and trans people constantly under attack through legislative actions against gender-affirming care, drag shows, and books, among many other laws, but Ron DeSantis also recently slashed funding for the arts in the state. As in all of it. DeSantis vetoed $32 million in arts funding approved by Florida’s legislature for the 2024-25 budget, severely threatening the financial stability of arts organizations and programs throughout the state. In the face of all this, South Florida queer and gender nonconforming music group Las Nubes has a clear message: ‘We’re not going anywhere.’” – AUTOSTRADDLE
