Mass Transits
This album evokes distance, time, travel and transit through synthesizers, field recordings, and drums. Behind-the-scenes, throughout the spring and summer, I travelled a great deal, mostly to help during family emergencies Although important, this constant transit sometimes felt overwhelming and disorienting. Music helped. The songs in this album reflect how careful listening to the world can ground us. Since In airports, I listened to and recorded ambient sounds at lobbies and gates, building much of this album out of the sounds embedded in these field recordings. At the end of these travels, we took a ferry, the SS Badger, across Lake Michigan for a few short days off among friends. The final song relates to the beauty of that trip, in contrast to the helter-skelter jumbles in Stumble-Run, and the long-duration takeoffs, landings, and sonic collisions of the other tracks.
