Linger the Unknowns
Mystery persists. I wandered the woods around the Northern Berkshires and Southern Vermont, and it’s a gorgeous place, thick with vegetation, awesome geologies, and mammals. As soon as it gets dark it becomes hidden from vision, and a bit spooky. Nocturnal animals push through dried leaves, clacking their hooves and scuffing their paws. Memories of Spring fireflies rise and fall. And the imagination lets loose, dream-like, full of fictions borne of the inability to perceive through the darkness. And yet that’s a calmness, a wonder of night-time, and despite all the unknowns, I think it seems beautiful. I’ve made a haunting set of projects about this kind of experience.
