Storm of the Century EP

Last week, Binaural Head released our debut EP. We went into the studio one weekend in April 2026 not really knowing what it was gonna be. We rehearsed Friday night then tracked these four songs to 2" tape over the next two days. The tape machine literally caught fire on the first day but we persisted.

The first two songs were largely improvised: the version All a Lie on the record was take 0, a naive practice run that was being recorded without our knowledge (thanks to the tape-op!). Storm of the Century wasn’t a part of the Friday rehearsal - we came up with the loose structure while tracking and ran with the first take. Our drummer overdubbed the vibraphone with the track muted.

After that there a couple straightforward rock'n'roll songs. Life is Strange offers a naive, almost magical realist perspective on the cycles of political violence and authoritarianism. In Closer to the Truth, paranoia and isolation fuel the narrator's increasingly desperate search for the truth, a journey which ends (or begins) with a mysterious landline phone in the middle of the woods.

Let the opening track All a Lie wash over you, and boundless treasure will await you in the afterlife.
