Secret Life of Button Boxes: Blue Box

Intricate poetic music — neither background nor rhythmic, yet deeply melodic and vibe-driven. Each piece demands close attention, much like a poem; to ease this journey, short literary fragments and accompanying visual pieces were paired with the tracks.

Built upon a complex nine-tone system of modal layers, every layer originated as a spontaneous aleatoric improvisation. The music emerges almost uncontrollably at the intersection of these textures. Strangely, this process perfectly captured the author’s intent: melancholy, nostalgia, longing for lost memories, and the quiet awe of uncovering real or imagined traces of the past. Here, the artist acts not only as a composer, but as the very first listener — discovering unexpected answers and clues to a lost map of memory.

At times, it evokes a subtle kind of blues — the blues accidentally squeaked out by the rusty gates of an empty house you once remembered full of life and light.

For me, Blue Box works best when you give it your full attention. Sit down, put on your headphones, and let the instruments exist on their own terms. Listen to the kalimbas as rain, the cello as a distant voice, and the apparent harmonic conflicts as different memories trying to occupy the same space. It is melancholic, strange and at times unsettling. But it is also remarkably dramatic."
