Work began on this album in June 2022, shortly after the completion of its predecessor. I'd been studying music theory, composition and orchestration, and I wanted to compose a collection of meaningful, interesting and well-constructed songs that encompassed everything I had learnt up until that point in time.

A number of the songs were written in conjunction with the MMC podcast. The premise being, a theme was given, and a song had to be written and recorded within a month. I took some of these crude early recordings and worked on them until I felt they were good enough for the album, rather than a rushed demo. The remaining songs were written in my more traditional manner. Inspired by conversations, or day to day life and phrases.

My partner Vicky has become a constant collaborator, and her contribution to this album cannot be understated. She has consistently challenged my creative process, at times brutally, but ultimately for the better of the album. With her help, I have worked tirelessly on getting the best recordings I possibly can, and I’ve paid particular attention to achieving some of my best vocal performances.

Songwriting and recording are only half of the story. I have spent a huge amount of time researching mixing and mastering techniques to give the album a rounded and balanced sound. It's not perfect, but what is? In a world becoming flooded with Ai music, some imperfection seems fitting to me.
