Bandcamp promotion guide

How to drive fans to your Bandcamp page in 2027

Give someone a reason to open your Bandcamp page: an early listen, a version they can't hear elsewhere, or a record they helped bring into the world. We'll help you choose an offer and put it in front of listeners, from your next show to a shared release.

How to grow your Bandcamp following in 2027

Start with one release and one reason to visit its page. A listener who already has your album on streaming needs to know what the trip buys them. Tell them which extra they'll find, then link to the release that contains it. Choose a promotion you can finish:

  • Have unreleased recordings? Build a Bandcamp edition around a demo, alternate mix or live take.
  • Have a gig coming up? Prepare a download offer and a readable QR code for the merch table.
  • Have collaborators? Agree on one release page and how each artist will introduce it.

Early access asks fans to change a listening habit. A subscription asks you to keep delivering. If a steady release schedule would be a strain, start with a single bonus recording. The suggestions below are for planning your 2027 releases; dates and allowances are marked where you need to check them again.

For more background on choosing a code-sharing approach, read our Bandcamp promotion guide alongside this release plan.

1. Give people a reason that only exists on Bandcamp

Offer an early window you can manage

Consider making the album available on Bandcamp before it reaches streaming services. Two weeks is one possible window, chosen by you. Before that window opens, a pre-order lets you share selected tracks while taking orders for the album.

In Bandcamp's pre-order setup, upload the album, check “this is a digital pre-order” and choose which tracks fans get instantly. On your Bandcamp release day, return to the album editor and choose “release pre-order now.” Bandcamp emails every pre-orderer a download link. Pre-orders must be released manually, so put time at the keyboard in your release plan.

Make the extra worth describing

Pick something that adds to the record: the demo before the arrangement changed, instrumentals, stems for a remix, an alternate mix, a live take or a commentary track. Explain what the listener gets in the release description. “Includes the first demo version” is a useful pitch if that demo is actually included. Choose extras you own and can deliver, and keep the Bandcamp-only promise for the material you advertise that way.

Use subscriptions when you have an ongoing offer

Bandcamp subscriptions include new releases, any releases from your back catalog you choose as an immediate bonus, subscriber-only tracks and albums, subscriber-only merch, and a subscriber community. You could build a fan club around unreleased recordings or first access to vinyl. Decide what you can sustain before promising a monthly track.

As of 2026-10-18, Bandcamp listed a subscription revenue share of 15% of your fee, plus payment processing of 2.9% + 30¢. The share drops to 10% once you've made $5,000 in the prior year; subscriber merch has a 10% share. Check the subscription page before setting your price, and leave room for the time and materials your offer needs.

2. Help Spotify listeners find the extra

A short bio line such as “Bonus recordings and vinyl on Bandcamp” can tell listeners where to look, if those things are available. Treat that mention as plain text. Spotify's bio tools describe Spotify links and tags, and its supported profile links do not include a custom website or Bandcamp link. You can't add a clickable Bandcamp link through that profile-link feature.

You could record a brief spoken outro on your own last track, telling listeners where to find the additional recordings. Keep it short enough that you're comfortable hearing it every time the record ends. Use the same clear artist name wherever you send someone to search for you.

Keep Canvas as artwork for the track. Spotify's Canvas policy says to avoid websites and URLs, sales pitches, deals and promotion of fan experiences. A Canvas advertising your Bandcamp exclusive would run against that guidance.

3. Borrow other artists' audiences

Make a split release or compilation with artists whose listeners might enjoy your work. Agree on who hosts the release, who handles proceeds and what each contributor will share. Give everyone the same destination link and a few sentences about the other artists, so each introduction offers a reason to explore.

The fan-feed effect is narrower than “everyone reaches everyone's audience.” Bandcamp describes purchases appearing in the feeds of people who follow the buyer, with that fan's favorite track and note. A compilation purchase does not automatically appear across every contributor's audience. The artists still need to tell their listeners.

A charity compilation can give you a concrete reason to contact local press or a genre newsletter. Name the beneficiary and explain how proceeds will be handled. If you're planning it around Bandcamp Friday, the help page, accessed 2026-10-18, describes a midnight-to-midnight Pacific window when Bandcamp waives its revenue share. Transaction fees still apply. As of 2026-10-18, 2027 dates had not been announced; check Bandcamp’s current list.

For a remix contest, offer stems on Bandcamp and agree on permission and release terms before inviting entries. You could release the selected remixes there too. Budget for downloads: free or zero-paid name-your-price downloads use free-download credits, which are separate from track/album codes. The allowances and code options are below.

A newsletter swap is a smaller commitment. Ask a small label or a Substack writer in your genre whether they'd like to exchange a short recommendation. Tell their readers why this particular release might fit; give your own readers the same care in return.

4. Bring the physical world in

Put a QR code on a merch-table sign, poster, sticker or record-store flyer that points to a specific download offer. Print the artist name and a readable destination beside it. Try the code on your phone before printing the batch. A pay-what-you-want release can give someone who enjoyed the set a way to take it home.

Separate free-download credits from codes

As of 2026-10-18, Bandcamp's free-download allowance was 200 downloads for artist and label accounts, topped back up to 200 once a month. That allowance covers free tracks or albums and name-your-price downloads when the fan enters zero. More credits can be bought from the Tools page. Check your balance before putting a free offer on every flyer.

Track/album codes are a different system. The code tutorial, accessed 2026-10-18, says you generate them on the Tools page in multiples of 100. New accounts start with 200 free codes; Bandcamp adds 1,000 for every $500 USD in sales, and more can be bought. These are not the monthly free-download credits.

Fans redeem at your artist-specific yourname.bandcamp.com/yum page. A direct link such as yourname.bandcamp.com/yum?code=XXXX-XXXX includes an individual code. Each code is unique and single-use, so don't print the same code-bearing QR on a stack of flyers expecting everyone to redeem it. Use individual cards for individual codes, or link the shared poster to your release's pay-what-you-want offer.

Unused codes have no expiration date. Once a code is redeemed, its download link permits only a few attempts within a limited window. For a scavenger hunt, tuck individual code cards into places you've arranged with a shop or venue and share clues. Get permission before leaving cards in record sleeves or library books. A postcard with a code and a short personal note is another option for a local radio host, DJ or record-store buyer.

5. Make buying a social act

Send an album to someone whose taste you respect, with a note about why you thought of them. Bandcamp's “Send as gift” option sits under the Buy button: enter the recipient's email and check out. They can redeem the gift by email without creating an account. Treat it as an invitation to listen; the gift instructions do not establish placement in a recipient's feed or “supported by” list.

Ask buyers who enjoyed the record to leave a specific note. In their collection, they can hover over the release, click “set” next to “favorite track” and add why they love the album. Their comment appears on the album's Bandcamp page. Thank people for taking the time, and avoid handing everyone a line to paste.

There are visibility conditions: “supported by” requires a Fan account plus a profile photo or at least four purchases. A review can also be hidden if the same text was added to a similar item or another release. Don't promise every buyer that their face or words will appear.

If you're making a small cassette or lathe-cut run, announce the actual quantity you have and give followers the first notice. Follower messages arrive on Bandcamp and by email. Bandcamp also describes targeting messages by location and level of support, and automatic notifications for new music or merch. Use your extra message to explain what's special about this edition, rather than repeat the notification fans already receive.

6. Make content with a Bandcamp destination

Start with Bandcamp Listening Parties if you want to hear the album together. They're free to attend, play the full album once from start to finish, and include liner notes and live chat. Fans can pre-order or buy the available formats inside the event. Set a date and time, and prepare a few notes about the recordings to share while people listen.

Twitch or YouTube can also be places to host a listening session. If you time yours around a confirmed Bandcamp Friday, include the release link and make the Pacific-time window clear. If the album is still a pre-order, someone must handle its manual release.

You could let a YouTube creator use your music in exchange for a Bandcamp link in the description. Put the permission in writing and be clear about which recording and uses it covers. You grant that permission directly, with any other rights holders who need to agree; Bandcamp does not license the music to the creator for you.

For a production breakdown on TikTok or Reels, show one decision a listener can hear: the drum part before and after an edit, or how a demo became the released arrangement. If you're offering the stems, end with where to find them on Bandcamp. The clip gives someone a reason to want the files, and the destination should deliver exactly those files.

What GetMusic adds

When codes are part of your plan, we help distribute the ones you've generated on Bandcamp. Fans browse GetMusic by genre and claim codes for releases they want to hear; you can see who claimed yours. To use that route, submit your release on GetMusic with your Bandcamp URL and a batch of codes.

We don't generate codes, host your music or run your mailing list. Sending a few personal codes yourself may be enough for a small invitation list. GetMusic fits when you want genre browsing and claim tracking alongside distribution; a claim is not a promise of a purchase or a follow. For other ways to handle a giveaway, see free Bandcamp code tools, ranked.

Frequently asked questions

Give them a specific reason to visit, such as demos or a live version available on Bandcamp. A Bandcamp mention in your Spotify bio is plain text; Spotify's supported profile links do not include a custom Bandcamp link. Keep URLs and sales pitches out of Canvas.

No. You can choose instant tracks when setting up the pre-order, but you must return to the album editor and choose release pre-order now on release day. Bandcamp then emails pre-orderers a download link.

No. Track/album codes are unique, single-use codes generated on the Tools page. Unused codes do not expire. Free-download credits cover free items and name-your-price downloads where a fan enters zero. As of 2026-10-18, Bandcamp's help described a monthly top-up to 200 free downloads, separate from the 200 codes supplied to a new account.

Do not count on that. Bandcamp's gift instructions confirm that you can send a gift by email and the recipient can redeem it without creating an account. They do not establish that gifts appear in the recipient's feed or in the release's supported by section.

As of 2026-10-18, 2027 dates had not been announced; check Bandcamp’s current list. The Bandcamp Friday help page describes a midnight-to-midnight Pacific window when Bandcamp waives its revenue share. Transaction fees still apply.
