VATSWAV
DETO_X
Following on from the revelatory single Shroud of Silence, the DETO_X EP again sees Peter focus on different aspects of his creative processes and formative influences, encouraging the listener to join him on a contemplative journey to find their own answers - or questions - through his music.
Says Peter about the genesis of the DETO_X EP and the VATSWAV project itself, 'This idea has been percolating at the back of my mind for a number of years now. Not all music I've written fit the mold for ATOMZERO (my other project) for one reason or another. Yet these unused musical phrases, demos, or just unreleased songs kept their presence in my mind, taunting me. I needed to detox myself of material running around my brain - hence the title of this first release.'
Speaking about how world events over the last two years affected him, Peter revealed, 'The world took a turn in 2020, and the idea of a detox took a completely different meaning. Both inwardly in terms of isolation due to lockdowns and in how globally this virus is affecting our planet. Not to mention political ideologies and leadership changes.
'All this turmoil coalesced into this selection of tracks I chose to be this first release. A brief musical synopsis documenting what we were all enduring and continue to do so at the time of writing this in early 2022.'
The pandemic and accompanying lockdowns also saw Peter's listening preferences shift somewhat.
'During this period, I became more and more enamoured with instrumental music, leaving the listeners' minds free of lyrical content. With my listening habits changing, I finally decided to act and embarked on detoxing my mind of unreleased music in my personal back catalogue. The selection of tracks topically ranges from the impact of the pandemic, the political chaos, and mental health.'
The EP also saw Peter change tack when it came to the process of bringing an idea to life, affecting the practical and conceptual sides of his creative method:
'In terms of the musical process, the demos which spawned these tracks were recreated on my modular system (Eurorack) where each sound was crafted from scratch, with about 5% help from an OB-6 synth.
'This had a colossal impact on the textures I was able to accomplish that felt true to nature what these instrumentals were about. The exception to all this is the track Simulation Reset which was a new track I wrote specifically for this release.'
