Tomorrow's Another Day
deconstructed club / drill'n'bass / jungle / glitch / idm / electronic / ambient
Dateline: the late evening. Any late evening, really. The day's drawn to a close, and you reminisce upon it. We've all had days that have left us unsatisfied, to say the least. Maybe you had an emotionally taxing or exhausting day. Maybe you didn't quite accomplish all the day's goals you set. The age-old motivational phrase, "Tomorrow's Another Day", then comes to mind. Wonder what said tomorrow will bring? Perhaps there's an event on your itinerary that has you anxious, or one you're excitedly looking forward to. The turning point between one day and the next, the objectivity of the past alongside the uncertainty of the future, sure as heck can be wistful, tense, bittersweet, concerning, hopeful... sometimes all at once.
Besides a reassuring adage, Tomorrow's Another Day is also the name of Tekiket's extended play introduction. Not only does the cover art's fuzzed late-night scene echo the statement, but it also alludes to an exploration of cautiously optimistic feelings. Soothing and angry, at once? Don't assume that's an oxymoron, because giving these five cuts a listen reveals a cathartic quality that's subtle, yet apparent.
Tekiket focuses upon deconstructons of jungle and house for this debut outing of theirs. The music brings to mind late-90's small press IDM while showcasing an inventiveness of the artist's own. Chapter 2, Mystique, exemplifies this nicely: a warped phone call sample heralds a flurry of synths and claps on the fringe of acid. An incredibly lush synthline joins the scene, and as the song really gets rolling, it becomes very excitingly unpredictable; certain elements even change mid-stanza!
Tomorrow, a semi-titular track, is another particular highlight. It seems to embody the uncertainty of even the near future. Ever-shifting bass thumps and frantic hi-hats skitter around, backed by a gradual soundscape of disquieting vocalizations. However, the gloom and tensity carry a bit of cautious optimism with them all the same. In fact, "cautiously optimistic" makes quite a fitting descriptor for this EP overall. Tomorrow's Another Day makes an excellent debut project for Tekiket, and we're excited to hear any further works they have lined up. Enjoy the release!
