We Do Not Forget

“As musicians / artists we feel compelled to ask ourselves: what is an appropriate response to the systematic abuses of power with their deceitful justifications that are ruining our world and causing the needless deaths of millions all in the name of profit? This is what we’ve endeavoured to address over the past few years resulting in our new mini-album We Do Not Forget.

This record was written and produced between 2020 and 2024; a period of great turbulence, challenge and trauma for the world. We Do Not Forget embodies a journey of processing all that has gone on both internally and externally during those years. This involved coming to terms with power structures that exploit us and our world for profit, often in horrific and inhumane ways. It was also a reckoning with historical arcs of trauma, reframing a lifetime through the lens of undiagnosed neurodivergence and pandemic burnout.

It has been three US election cycles since we released our first single ‘Mr President, We’re In Trouble.’ On the eve of the upcoming US election, the lead and title track We Do Not Forget addresses a different president though the words of poet, activist, essayist and teacher June Jordan (1936–2002). She delivers a moving indictment of an unjust war. Edited from a talk Jordan gave in 1991 during the Persian Gulf War, this re-contextualised message resonates powerfully in light of today’s ongoing conflicts.

Stories shape our entire cognitive framework. We’ve spent much of our lives unpicking the stories that underpin our shared reality and joining dots of information that help us form a more coherent map of the way things really work in our world. In addition to June Jordan, the rest of this record features a staggering array of voices including renowned UK poet Mr Gee, the late author & cultural theorist bell hooks, author Richard Bach, Mint Press CEO Mnar Adley, late journalist & author Mike Ruppert, late author, & activist Lorraine Hansberry, late poet Gwendolyn Brooks and more. These are all visionary thinkers who contributed hugely to that map of reality for us and many others. This record is also a tribute to them and their testimony. It has to be said that a huge amount of work went into the research and editing of those voices, let alone the all-important musical incorporation.

We Do Not Forget consists of 2 separate releases. The CD / digital download version (exclusive to Bandcamp and Patreon) is an 8 track mini-album bundled with a hand-illustrated 28-page zine. The digital release is a 5 track EP available on all other platforms. We wanted to create something special for our core audience, who know us best through Bandcamp.”
