Impressionistic holiday themed music that captures the magic of that special time between Winter Solstice and New Years.
There are occasional references to a few familiar Christmas carols, but the album is more like a soundtrack for the season.
With these 12 pieces, I evoke the winter season—the cold and snowy streets of the city, bustling with holiday shoppers, the Salvation Army band, the lonely busker playing violin, the sound of carolers, bells, and harps. Memories too - like the static and crackle of the old tube radio while Grandpa tuned in to the King's speech or to check on the weather forecast.
It's bitter cold out, and there are storms on the horizon. The holidays can be fraught with worry. We need joy, love, and goodwill now more than ever, especially during these darkest days of the passing year.
So here is an old black-and-white photo of a windswept landscape, here is a skater turning circles on a frozen pond, or a skier flying down the mountainside in a white cloud. Here is a miniature world of dancing snowflakes to remind us of the magic and fragile beauty of that big frozen world outside we call home.
