Drum Machines were dominant in the 80’s, reviled in the 90’s, and are now so entrenched that you can’t tell whether the backbeat is live, Memorex, or an unholy hybrid. Which is why it now feels safe to PURPOSELY create an album made up almost entirely of songs with drum machines, samples, and loops. My recent songs tend to jump around with impunity, but there’s something seductive about a beat that rarely changes and never ends. A different kind of music flows forth from the repetition and insistence of the loops and drum machines. So just this once (for now) let’s embrace THE MACHINES.
