Gregory Johnson aka Oldphone (he/they) is a Los Angeles based multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer known for blending midwestern emo guitar with hyperpop-infused production. The sound is an amalgamation of live and programmed drum arrangments, detuned pianos, glitchy synthesizers, and the occasional soft RnB detour, which results in a unique take on both hyperpop and emo that you won’t find elsewhere. On their newest album, Gregory further solidifies their hyperemo sound, leaning into the heavier emo sounds.
